James Fallows chastises Maureen Dowd for chastising Bob Dylan for singing in china and presubmitting his playlist.
Maureen calls him a “sellout”.
I don’t whether Dylan was selling out there- I suspect he was – but in any event, he sold out a while ago with his Victoria’s Secret ad music.
Of course Bob Dylan has just as much right to sell out as the next guy.
but his bull about not being a folk singer or a protest singer is just so much blather.
He has been a disingenuous poseur for ever, more concerned with his career than he ever lets on.
But he has a willing band of apologists, who conveniently ignore his blather, plagiarism and arrogant attitude including Fallows, Ron Radosh, Jon Pareles and Sean Wilentz.
like John Lennon, in some circles, Bob dylan can do no wrong.
Let’s just say once upon a time, he was quite a talented singer/writer and leave it at that.
