Cops: Woman eats ex’s goldfish after spat
Fight over jewelry leads to untimely demise in frying pan for seven pet fish
PASADENA, Texas – Authorities say a Houston-area woman who was burned up at her former common-law husband fried their pet goldfish and ate some of them.
Pasadena police say it’s a civil matter and no charges will be filed. The seven goldfish were purchased together by the couple during happier times.
Police spokesman Vance Mitchell says the man reported on Saturday that the woman took the goldfish from his apartment.
Mitchell says the two argued earlier about some jewelry the man had given her but took back. She wanted the jewelry returned.
Officers who were dispatched to the woman’s home arrived to find four fried goldfish on a plate. The woman said she already ate the other three.

But this is ridiculous:
Empire State Building turns red-yellow for China’s 60th
(AFP) – 1 day ago
NEW YORK — New York’s iconic Empire State Building will light up red and yellow Wednesday in honor of the 60th anniversary of communist China.
The Chinese consul, Peng Keyu, and other officials will take part in the lighting ceremony which will bathe the skyscraper in the colors of the People’s Republic until Thursday, Empire State Building representatives said in a statement.
The upper sections of the building are regularly illuminated to mark special occasions, ranging from all blue to mark “Old Blue Eyes” Frank Sinatra’s death in 1998 to green for the annual Saint Patrick’s Day.
Just last week the tower turned bright red.
However, that was not to mark some other communist achievement, but the 70th anniversary of the film “The Wizard of Oz” in which Dorothy wears ruby slippers rather than the silver of the original L. Frank Baum novel.

Roman Polanski September 30, 2009

You can’t be surprised by the Hollywood community, and the French, turning out to defend Roman Polanski.
But the whole thing is indefensible (one article asked what would have happened if he had been a priest – good question, he’d either be in a lot of trouble or he wouldn’t)
But a couple of things must be noted
1. He committed a heinous crime- these aren’t charges he pled guilty (albeit to a lesser charge but that could be revoked because he fled)
2. He fled justice
3. The amount of time he spent away and the reasons for apprehending him now have little bearing
4. His past tragedies, while notable, have little bearing. OThers who have suffered have not resorted to crimes like this
5. His art has no bearing
6. He hasn’t “paid his due” – he’s been living royally in Europe for 30 years
7. His name hasn’t been tarnished- he’s won all kinds of awards
8. The victim’s willingness to excuse him is significant but not dispositive. The State has an interest in those who commit terrible crimes and flee justice independent of the victim
9. final question- you or I did this, what happens?
Those people rallying to his defense are the first people to cite inequitable justice in our country. Can you say hypocrisy?

A 10-year-old English girl, Tilly Smith, saved nearly a hundred lives with this knowledge (drawback, water receding before wave hits) ahead of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. She had learned about drawback in a geography lesson and warned her family, who in turn told others. She has since given a speech at the United Nations and had an asteroid named after her: 20002 Tillysmith.
