I hear they really work them over, there.
Dick Cheney, A Villain For All Seasons August 31, 2009

Cheney, the cheerleader-in-chief for the whole “a little torture never hurt anybody” crowd, has had his ugly mug all over the media this weekend, not quite crowding out the liberal lion of the Senate, but on the other hand, Cheney never drove an innocent girl off a bridge. Sure, he might have the blood of several hundred thousand other innocents on his hands, but who’s counting? But I digress. Cheney is just shocked, shocked and offendedthat the attorney general is going to investigate anyone for torturing prisoners held in American custody. To hear Cheney tell it, torture is even more American than apple pie. Hell, we even gave some of the guilty terrorizing rag-head bastards a slice of apple pie in between bouts of waterboarding, walling, freezing, and sleep deprivation. We’re not animals, for god sakes. Cheney’s latest bit of bizarre historical revisionism and self-aggrandizement came during a hard-hitting interview with FOX News’ Chris Wallace, where Wallace bombarded him with probing questions like, “Wouldn’t you agree that that terrorist-loving pussy Obama is leading this great nation right to the brink of a Muslim overthrow?” (Ok, I made that up, but I’m only just slightly paraphrasing.)
Wallace and Cheney needn’t have worried overmuch. Eric Holder may initiate an investigation, and a few poor sap CIA enforcers might have to be thrown to any surviving Michael Vick pit bulls just to mollify naive lefty pacifist nancy-boys like me, but the hard work of wringing valuable intelligence out of guilty-until-proven-innocent known baby-killers and terrorist thugs goes on unabated. Obama may have promised to close Guantanamo, but nobody has pulled up the moving vans or put up the “for sale” signs just yet. He said there will be no more torture while he’s president, but he didn’t mention the fine print. For selected bad guys, they’ll still undergo “rendition” to places like Egypt and Syria. If they lose a few fingernails or toes over there, we can hardly be held responsible. The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Dead Serious August 31, 2009

While I didn’t spend any time blogging this weekend, I wasn’t totally divorced from current events. I managed to catch a bit of CNN, a taste of MSNBC, and a pinch of VH-1 and E. I couldn’t help but notice that it was an all death all the time kind of news cycle. All the “serious” news outlets were running Teddy Kennedy funeral/eulogy/memorial reviews and retrospectives pretty much 24/7 and over there on the entertainment news outlets you’d have thought that Michael Jackson had been resurrected and died all over again (alas, he was but “The King of Pop”, not the “King of Kings”). It was MJ’s birthday. That provided an excuse to re-interview his fat sleazy looking dermatologist/baby-daddy and go over the ill effects of using IV anesthetics as home remedies one more time. It was all moderately entertaining, but I’m sorry…if I have to hear speculation one more time about how “Prince Michael” and “Blanket” are going to fare, I’m going to retch. Where Blanket is concerned, I’m in favor of a cover-up.

Weighing In: Another Monday In Paradise August 31, 2009

It’s always a revelation for me to click open the blog on Monday morning and see what I’ve missed while festering in debauched lassitude and sloth for the previous 72 hours. I’m rarely disappointed. For those of you who may have failed to click on every contrarian link offered, let me provide a concise summary:
American college education: Commie leftist training camps. Leave your brain at home.
Global warming: Commie leftist agiprop. And polar bear tastes just like chicken.
Maryl Streep: Commie leftist Hollywood puppet. Butter is good for you, and real Americans eat red meat. And that whole cigarette-cancer connection is way overrated.
National health care: Another reason British NHS is near bankrupt: the fools are actually taking patient dignity into consideration. Probably some kind of death panel thing.
Ted Kennedy: But what about Chappaquidick? (Commie leftist murdering adulterer.)
Torture: We told you so!! It works!! The end justifies the means. What part of this do you fail to understand?
