It’s a particularly human frailty of mine, but I just love it when I can say, “I told you so.” It seems that within hours of Sarah Palin’s incoherent and disjointed surprise resignation speech, the story came out that, unlike Palin’s claims of responding to “a higher calling”, she is in fact under the shadow of a federal ethics and embezzlement investigation. The Palin camp was quick to respond with threats of libel suits against anyone reporting this scurilous defamation: “To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as ‘fact’ that Governor Palin resigned because she is ‘under federal investigation’ for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation,” Van Flein said in a statement. “This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law.” So let me be crystal clear. I would NEVER suggest without evidence or corroboration that the esteemed governor of the great state of Alaska was in any way associated with any type of legally or ethically questionable activities. I’m only reporting that someone else says she is. Nonetheless…I told you so.
